How Evergreen Garden Services install artificial grass!

1. PLAN THE AREA

Before starting the artificial grass project, we plan out the area to cover. Ensuring that cables and water pipes are below the digging depth.

Then we remove the turf to a depth of minimum of  2" using a turf cutter or spade and remove any large stones, bricks, or other obstructions.

2. CREATE AN EDGE
If there are no perimeters for the artificial grass to butt up against, we install an edging system. We might use either a wooden, steel or even stone edging system depending upon the garden and customers budget.

3. LAY THE BASE
We use type 1 mot at around 20mm first and then use a compactor machine to ensure that the sub-base for the artificial grass area has a solid foundation. We then apply about 6mm of lime dust and use a leveling float  to drag the dust across the application area to provide a smooth level surface

4. APPLY WEED MEMBRANE
Once the base is compacted, we apply weed membrane to the area. This will prevent weed growth whilst allowing water drainage. We trim off any waste membrane from the edges. If any joining is needed, overlap the edges then attach them with duct tape.
5. INSTALL THE ARTIFICIAL GRASS
We unroll the artificial turf over the area, being careful to not move the weed membrane. Running the product toward the house will give the best look from the windows of the house. Once positioned, we trim the excess artificial grass. The edge gives us a useful edge to run the knife around. We always use a new blade to ensure that the cut is as neat as possible.

6. Finally
To finish, we apply kiln sand to the turf using a blower and stiff brush or a lawn fertiliser spreader.  6-8kg’s of sand per square metre of product. This step is vital to ensure the most natural looking fake turf. This sand dressing must be done on a dry day.
